A group of arts organizations has received $50,000 from Reconnecting to Our Waterways to build a floating stage, a portable stage and other production necessities, including outdoor lighting, sound equipment, tents and generators on the White River. The pop-up arts district will be fueled by Indy Convergence, the Fonseca Theatre Company, Indy Shakes, the Eiteljorg Museum and Kenyetta Dance. The project, called "A Rising Tide," uses theater to economically support west-side neighborhoods, including Haughville and Hawthorne. Residents who are interested will be able to learn theater technician skills and work in the Indianapolis scene. A Rising Tide has received the support of the Near West Livability Task Force, which helps residents enact their ideas. Read more in this recent Indy Star article.
